Riga withdrew from the competition due to unpaid debts. They eventually merged with Olimps and created a new club called RFS/Olimps.
Vindava withdrew from the competition due to financial reasons.
Daugava and Dinaburg merged and remained under the Dinaburg name. Dinaburg will also take Daugava's Europa League 2009/10 spot.
Blazma won the promotion/relegation play-off in last season against Tranzits. However, after several mergers and withdrawals Tranzīts were also awarded a place in Virsliga, as the runners-up of First League.

Liepajas Metalurgs - 2nd round of qualifications for the Champions League
Ventspils and Cup winner - 2nd round of qualifications for the Europa League
Skonto - 1st round of qualifications for the Europa League

Dinaburg were excluded from the league due to match-fixing related to betting which involved Dinaburg's president Oleg Gavrilov and head coach Tamaz Pertia. Dinaburg's remaining matches will be awarded to their opponents with 3:0.
