For the first time, playoffs will be used to determine the league champion. The first six teams of the competition will play round robin playoff in which they start with half the points earned during the regular season (rounded down).
The teams finishing in positions 7 through 14 will be divided into two groups and the winners of these groups will play a home and away match against each other to earn the right to play for the last UEFA Europa League spot against the team finishing fourth in the title playoff.

On 28 December 2009 Excelsior Mouscron was relegated to 3rd level for financial problems. All played matches were annulled.
